Woodmansterne CC

Welcome to Woodmansterne!!

The Club

Woodmansterne Cricket Club (founded in 1921) is the part of its larger 'parent' Sports Club (a multi-sports club run as a company limited by guarantee) dedicated to cricket.

For details of the Sports Club and the other activities it provides please go to www.woodsports.co.uk

New Facilities

The Sports Club has been involved for several years in petitioning the local Council to improve and upgrade the changing facilities of the Club.

Following the securing of approximately £800,000 of funds from the Council and the Football Foundation a year long project took place uring 2009 to demolish and rebuild the changing rooms, providing the Club with start of the art changing facilities (produced to Sport England specifications) for football and cricket.

The Teams

We run three senior teams playing league cricket on Saturdays - the Firsts and Thirds playing in the Fullers Brewery Surrey County League. The Seconds will once again be playing the 2012 season in the Rymans Surrey Championship.

We also run a Saturday 4th XI side playing friendly fixtures and (where availability permits) a Saturday 5th XI.

There is also a Sunday 1st XI which plays friendlies against local teams and a Sunday 2nd XI, which gives older colts a chance to play alongside seniors in friendly Sunday afternoon cricket.

Colts sides are run at the following ages (i.e. under 16, under 15, under 14, under 13, under 12, under 11, under 10 and under 9 levels) in the East Surrey Colts League.

The Surrey Trust Development League

Following results in 2010 & 2011 we have once again entered an XI into the Surrey Trust League. However for 2012 we will be entering this XI into the Development XI League rather than the Trust XI League as we have previously done. This team which plays 40 over Sunday League cricket against top class clubs allows juniors and adults to develop alongside each other.

The side will consist of at least 6 under 18s (of which 4 must be under 16s), with the remainder made up of cricketers of any age.

ECB ClubMark / Focus Club status

The club attained ECB ClubMark accreditation during 2007 (and was re-accredited again in 2010), and was accepted in 2008 to become one of the 45 Focus Club within Surrey. In addition

Woodmansterne CC fully support the commitment of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to ensure that all children involved in cricket have a positive and safe experience. All our coaches are ECB qualified; this includes the Safeguarding Children module, are CRB checked and fully support the ECB Code of Conduct. We have in excess of 120 colts, and each year group has at team of manager and at least one coach dedicated to providing a safe, positive and fun environment for the colts to enjoy cricket. 'Woods' colts are treated as individuals, fair play is promoted and the welfare of each colt is placed before winning or achieving goals.

We currently have two fully qualified Club Welfare Officers (Geoff Curnow) and (David Ackland ) Should you have any issues you would like to discuss with Geoff or David please call or email.

In the event you have an issue and cannot get hold of Geoff or David, please contact any of the following in the first instance:

WSC Chairman: Phil Wells
WCC Chairman: Chris Vagg
Colts Manager: Ruth Houghton

or, in exceptional circumstances:

County Welfare Officer (Surrey): Heidi Langrish

contact details for all WCC individuals listed above can also be found in the About Us section of the website.

We welcome players of all abilities. Please note that while overseas players are welcome at the club they are asked to pay subscriptions and match fees at normal Club rates.

Regular social events include Quiz Nights, an annual Barbeque, a Cricket Week during late July and an end of season Dinner Dance and Presentations Evening.
